Eager golfers headed out for the eighteenth year to the world-renowned eighteen-hole course on the afternoon of Sunday 28th July to complete a practice round. Later, guests gathered for a canapé and champagne toasting ceremony on the hotel’s terrace, offering breathtaking views of the golf grounds. During this time, guests had the opportunity to raise money through the raffle, with prizes drawn later in the evening.
Guests then took their seats for the gala dinner, which opened with a welcome from the charity’s founder, David Nicholls. A spectacular four-course dinner was prepared and served by the Mandarin Oriental. The silent auction, consisting of 24 remarkable prizes, was announced, sparking exciting discussions among guests during their meal. This auction was facilitated through our online platform provider, Givergy, and raised a total of £49,375. The evening’s buzz continued with a cabaret act by West End entertainers, who performed some well-loved hits.
Charlie Ross hosted the live auction, raising a remarkable total of £53,600, with 14 world-class prizes up for grabs. Highlights included six nights in the USA for two people, experiencing the rich history of Boston and the nightlife of New York, a two-night Scottish Whisky Weekend for ten with dinner and whisky tasting, and eight nights in Hong Kong and Macau, and a Dining Experience for eight at the Waterside Inn.
The following morning, after enjoying a hearty breakfast, 23 teams took to the course to compete for the top spot. The day concluded with the famous Golf Day Brunch and prize giving, with the winning team consisting of Messrs Bates, Wilson, Sievewright and Riches.
nsif’s Golf Day is our charity’s biggest event of the year, and we extend a big thank you to all who attended our 2024 event and those who have continued to support and engage with us over the years. This event is a testament to Jenifer Shah, who sadly passed last August and was a fundamental anchor to the charity. Every attendee, prize donor, auction bidder, and member of the support team made important contributions, allowing this year to be another incredible success. A special thank you goes out to Jennifer and Paul Gibbons for allowing us to host the tournament at their resort again.
Thank you to the catering and front-of-house teams, support staff, and of course, all who donated prizes. This year’s event raised over £150,000, and all proceeds fund the ground-breaking work changing the future of spinal cord injuries. We hope to see everyone again next year to support the journey of being another step closer to treatment and a cure for spinal injuries.
