Willy Bauer is renowned throughout the Hotel and Leisure Industry for his hands on approach to management style. In 1975, as the GM and Executive Director of the then ailing Hyde Park Hotel, he established successfully THF’s flagship property, followed by a similar brief on Grosvenor House. In 1981 he was approached to become GM and MD of The Savoy, which during his 8-year tenure, earned him the soubriquet ‘Saviour of The Savoy’ from The Financial Times, whilst the Board suggested that ‘he will go down in history as having brought The Savoy back to past glory’. In 1989 he was appointed CEO of the Wentworth Group, the hotel and leisure division of Chelsfield plc., and under his leadership Wentworth became the blue print for golf and country clubs today.
Willy Bauer has won many awards including ‘International Hotel Personality of the Year’ and ‘European Hotelier of the Year’. He is a Master Innholder, was made Freeman of the City of London and is an Honorary Professor of The University of West London.
Throughout his career, Bauer has been aware of the powerful role his industry can play in raising funds and has always set aside some of his time and energy to help those less fortunate, supporting many charities, foundations and scholarships.
