Claire’s Road2Recovery events success!

Claire has wowed all who follow her already in 2016, with her remarkable progress on a motorbike whilst continuing her inspirational speaking tours and hand cycling.  As if that wasn’t enough, she has also managed to fit in 3 major fundraising events for nsif!

Claire’s first event saw over 150 motorcyclists take to the roads around Melton Mowbray for the second Road2Recovery Rideout. It got the season off to a great start by raising £1,000 for nsif.

The 30th May saw Claire, who is paralysed, take on one of her most daunting challenges yet, walking 10km with the aid of her ReWalk suit.  A determined Claire set off at 5am from The Mall – 5 hours before the official start time – and finished at 5pm that evening, taking a total of 12 hours to complete the course. Claire’s tenacity was inspirational and she managed to raise over £13,000 – 13 times her original target of £1,000.

The most recent of Claire’s fundraisers was the launch of the first Road2Recovery Half Marathon sponsored by NEXT. On 19th June, Claire organised a family friendly event which included a mile run and 5km fun run. In addition to the races there were bouncy castles and entertainment for children as well as food, drinks and live music. Over 300 people attended the event in the tranquil Eye Kettleby Lakes, Leicestershire. The fun-filled, festival atmosphere proved to be infectious with many attendees already proclaiming excitement for next year’s half marathon.

Claire has already raised over £500,000 for spinal injury research and shows no sign of stopping until there is a cure.
